Extra-curricular activities play a major part in the education of children in C.B.S Primary. As well as the curricular activities of games, swimming, gymnastics, dance, athletics and dance all students get the opportunity to partake in a variety of other activities. Each class is given a 5-6 week block in the following activities throughout the year:

  • Hurling
  • Soccer
  • Tennis
  • Chess
  • Drumming
  • Rugby
  • Yoga
  • Dance

Chess

Chess is very big in our school with pupils from many classes taking part throughout the year. Colm and Jim are here on a weekly basis to teach all children how to play and many of our pupils take part in chess tournaments as part of Lá Fichille. We also have a Chess Club at lunch time.

Cumann na mBunscol

Each year we take part in U11 and U13 Hurling, Camogie and Gaelic football competitions as part of Cumann na mBunscol. Hurling and Camogie coaching takes place throughout the year, both during and after school. All children are encouraged to get involved. During lunch times children get to take part in regular leagues. This is in addition to the wonderful ‘active breaks’ that we partake in for being an ‘Active School’.

Active Schools Week

In Term 3 we have our Active Schools Week and Sports Day which are always terrific events. These events take place on our playing pitches and 400m running track which we share with St. Joesph’s C.B.S secondary school. We are also lucky enough to have a terrific partnership with Nenagh Athletic Club allowing us to avail of their indoor track facilities.

Soccer

Soccer plays a big part in our school also. We take part in soccer coaching throughout the year and we also enter the Futsal and FAI 5 aside competitions. Lunch time leagues are also a major part of our school year! In recent years we have been very successful in these competitions winning county and Munster titles while also representing the school in the Aviva stadium.
