Summer News

Army Band

On 13th May the Army band from Athlone came to play for our school and surrounding schools. They were accompanied by the CBS band Nenagh and were very entertaining.They told us about all the different instruments in the band and Marek from Ms Barry’s class got a turn conducting the band. They played lots of different music including the theme from The Incredibles.

Sports Day

On the 7th of May we had our sports day. All the classes competed in different events like running, hockey, soccer, rugby and tug of war. Then we had an assembly and we gathered in the G.P Room. At the end of the day we got medals.When we got the medals, we thanked the transition years from the secondary for helping us with our sports day.

Athletics

On the 20th of May, we started to do athletics in Ballygraigue. The teachers have been walking us down to the Athletics track. We would like to thank Ms Brophy for organising it and the mentors for training us. 

Fundraising for Nepal

We held a no uniform day to raise money for the people of Nepal. We presented the money to Sinead Daffey to give to her daughter Finnoaula who is working out in Nepal. 

Water Safety

Shay O Dwyer, a lifeguard in Nenagh swimming pool, came to the school to teach some classes about water safety. 

Soccer Blitz

Mr Buckley entered eight teams into the soccer blitz. Corville entered three teams and the Gaelscoil entered two teams. Corville defeated the Gaelscoil in the final 1-0. Our maroon team defeated our green team in the shield final 2-1. The scorers for the maroon team were Jamie Donnellan and Eoin Richardson. Filip Guziak scored for the green team. 

4th Green Flag

We have our 4th green flag! The CBS primary Nenagh is proud to announce that we are an active greenschool. We continue to maintain our litter and waste, we close doors when we can conserve heating and we monitor our usage on regular basis. On Friday  next 12th June ,we will have our flag ceremony. The proceedings will commence at 12pm with 4th playing a few tunes on their recorders. Sean Hartigan from an Taisce has been asked to raise the flag, along with representatives from local schools and papers. Proceedings will finish with “Walkin Funk” led by Mr Shine’s 5th/6th class.

Hurling

The u13 Hurling team had a challenge match against Newtown school. They also played a league match against Scoil Ailbhe from Thurles that they narrowly lost. In Littleton they played Two-Mile-Borris in terrible conditions and lost by two points. They played Templemore in Nenagh Éire Óg field and lost by a few points. Their last match was against Carraig, here in the CBS. It was a draw.

Room 1

We are very glad that Summer has come. We learned about an Samhradh in Irish. In Religion we learned about St Gobnait and we made bees in art. We are really enjoying athletics every Wednesday. It is great to try out all of the new things such as long jump, relays and even the high jump. 
We are learning about the Chinese Zodiac Calendar and finding out which animal represents the year we were born. with the school tour and holidays coming up, we are sure the next few weeks will be great fun.

Room 2

We made a get well soon card for our teacher Ms Slattery. We learned about Christopher Columbus on his amazing voyage in history. We started to grow parsnips in the school garden.

Room 3

We did projects in our scrapbooks. Some boys did My Hero,others did their favourite animal, country and food. Mark Griffin’s dad came to visit us. He is a station officer in the Nenagh fire station. He brought in his fire equipment and his uniform.We really enjoyed his visit and learned a lot. Ben Walsh qualified for the All Ireland Relay finals in athletics.We have been designing anti-bullying posters. We also had a visit from Sr Essie and learned and St Gobnait.

Room 4

We went on our school tour to Moneygall to the playground and the Obama plaza for lunch in Supermacs. We had great fun. Sr Essie came to visit us and we learned about blessed Edmund Rice the founder of the CBS schools.We are very safety concious at the moment. We had a fire safety talk and water safety talk and we made road safety posters. We had a party for Ben’s 8th birthday and to say goodbye to Miss Moroney on Friday 5th June. We are sad to say goodbye to Miss Moroney but we are very happy to have Mrs Ryan back.

Room 14 

In art we started to do our travel art and anti bullying poster and art volcano. In our geography we are learning about about the Japanese places and the culture. In Science we are investigating the entire solar system. In sports we are part taking in athletics out in Ballygraigue. In maths we are writing word problems and doing long multiplication. We have been busy reading narrative texts in English.

Room 13

We learned about the continent called Africa and all the countries in Africa. We made African ciloets and African mask in our geography. We also learned about 3-d shapes in maths. We went to the park and Ms McGrath got a turn on the zip wire!

Room 7

We did portraits of famous soccer players.We did sigmas and micras.We wrote an email in Irish.We were the first to use the computers and made some 3-D shapes.We do athletics every Wednesday.We also made circle pictures with compasses. We learned about Indian food. 

Room 9

They prepared for their confirmation that was held on the 24th of May. Sr Essie visited their class to test all their religious knowledge. The boys went on a retreat to Roscrea Monastery. Everybody really enjoyed the trip.

Room 8

The boys made their confirmation on the 24th of May with room 9. They started athletics every Wednesday in Ballygraigue. A new student named Fernando joined the class. They participated in sports day. All the class learned about the Irish Free State and the civil war. They made doves for the confirmation and joined room 9 on retreat in Roscrea.
