Halloween Update

Ms McCutcheon’s Junior Infant class

The boys and girls have had a great month in Junior Infants. They have loved dancing with Megan every Friday and they have been doing great running around the track for our Race Around Europe Challenge. The children have been learning all about autumn this month. We went on a nature trail and made a nature table in our classroom. A farmer also visited the school and we got to hop on his tractor for a look! Finally, we all worked really hard for Maths Week. We went on a Shape Hunt around the school, we played maths games on the ipads and played lots of counting games with our friends. Well done everyone!

Mr Tooher’s Junior Infant class

Junior Infants, Room 4, have been so busy in October.

Here are but a few of the fun and fabulous things we have learned:

  • Phonics – Phase 2 Jollyphonic letter sounds – c, k, e, h, m, r, d and reinforcement of Phase 1 letter sounds – s, a, t, i, p, n.
  • Maths – Combining sets of 1 and 2 and 2-d shapes
  • Fine motor skills – We have become excellent with scissors (safely!)
  • Handwriting – letter formation of Phase 1 and Phase 2 Jollyphonic letters
  • I.T. – We are becoming advanced computer programmers once a week
  • Art – We used straws  and paint  to make colourful rain over our silhouette umbrellas.

Ms Doyle’s & Ms Glennon’s Senior Infant’s classes

October was a wonderful month in Senior Infants, filled with fun, exploration and discovery as we learned all about autumn and Halloween!

The children thoroughly enjoyed our stories, Hansel and Gretel and Room on the Broom, which sparked our imaginations and brought lots of excitement to the classroom.

We headed outdoors on a beautiful autumn trail, where we explored the wonderful changes in nature. The children loved discovering colourful leaves, acorns, conkers, berries, helicopters and pine cones, learning about the signs of autumn all around us.

We also celebrated Maths Week, with lots of active, hands-on learning. The children enthusiastically explored our maths resources and developed their mathematical skills through play. We went on a maths trail around the school, using our maths eyes to spot numbers, shapes, patterns and maths in our everyday environment.

To finish off our October activities, we carved our very own class pumpkin! The children thoroughly enjoyed getting involved and watching our pumpkin transform into a spooky Halloween creation.

It has been a fantastic month of learning, creativity and fun in Senior Infants, and we look forward to many more exciting adventures after the midterm break!

Ms Lee’s and Mr Hannigan’s 3rd class

Third class had a busy October covering lots of different topics. In maths we focused on bar charts in Data and spent time figuring out which shapes do and don’t tessellate!

We practised our tin whistle also and definitely have some talented musicians in our class. With Halloween around the corner we focused on our Happy Halloween poem which the children enjoyed performing. We also looked at the key elements of report writing and after Halloween break we will do further report writing on our experiences over the Halloween weekend. I’m sure we will all have some spooky stories and tales to report on!

We did plenty of Art this month also with our Halloween pumpkins and Autumn leaves front and centre on our display boards as well as entering the credit union and Nenagh bookshop art competitions. We round off the month with a trip to Eire Og for the third and fourth class Gaelic Football Blitz which we are all excited about.

Ms Gratton’s 3rd and 4th class

October was a busy and enjoyable month in 3rd and 4th Class!

In Maths, we took part in a variety of fun and engaging maths stations. Everyone got really involved and worked and learned lots. We also created lots of wonderful artwork and explored our creativity through different art activities. In Geography, we completed project work on Ireland, learning more about our country. We had a great month of learning, creativity and teamwork!

Mr O’Sullivan’s 5th class

October was a busy, action-packed month for 5th Class, marked by enthusiastic learning, active teamwork, and creative hands-on projects. The boys stayed active and motivated as part of our Active School initiative, taking on physical challenges and logging distance towards major European cities. We also built fantastic reading habits through regular visits to our local library to explore new books. In STEAM, as part of the Microsoft Dreamspace programme, they put their problem-solving and engineering skills to the test through a hands-on design and construction project, building functional models of windmills from scratch with great collaboration. Overall, the class demonstrated wonderful energy, curiosity, and positive engagement throughout the month—well done to all the boys on a very successful October!

Mr Buckley’s class

Our theme this month was ‘The Gruffalo’ which we incorporated into our music, literacy and story time. We made our own hand puppets and had great fun acting out the story. We sang ‘Shake Our Sillies Out’ which was great fun and a good way to help us relax in the morning. The children really enjoyed the Waterplay and Sensory activities, especially the activity where we had to rescue our friends who were stuck in the Jelly.

Our Friday social outings took us down to SPAR where the children had great fun and lots of treats! We have been busy doing art and making decorations for Halloween.

Ms Sheary’s class
