Well done to our boys who won the Cumann na mBunscol Roinn B U-13 football county final against Two-Mile Borris primary school in the Ragg. 





What’s On in Our School?

Welcome back!

In November We Remember
November, month of the Holy Souls, some of our classes will be visiting the church and all classes will be remembering those who have passed on.

Football
We are delighted to announce that our U/13 football team have made it into the Roinn B Cumann na mBunscoil County Semi Final. This match will take place in The Ragg this Thursday the 9th Nov against Cashel Boys National School . We wish the team the very best of luck.

Rugby
Rugby is starting back for 5thand 6th classes with Pat Fitzpatrick.

Swimming
St Flannan’s 2nd and St Eugene’s 3rd along with St Thomas’s will be swimming this month.

6thClass Retreat
St Brendan’s 6th class will be attending a retreat at the Parish Centre here in Nenagh on Friday the 17thNovember.

Debating
Our debating team is up and running again this year. Team members are Matthew McKeown, Ivan Struzia, Ian Shanahan, Mark Manley and Evan Crowe. Our first debate is a friendly competition against Thomond Primary School, Limerick. The topic is ‘School Uniforms are a Necessity’ and we are proposing the motion. The debate will be held in our school on Friday the 10th November.

Parent Teacher Meetings
Parent Teacher Meetings will take place on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd November. Letters will be sent to organise appointment times with each family.

Lego Competition
This year our Lego Competition is taking place during November. The theme this year as chosen by our students is ‘Outer Space’. We look forward to seeing what the boys’ imaginations and team work come up with!
This year, due to popular demand, parents will be able to come in and view all classes’ projects at the end of November.

Soup for Sale
Our 5th Class teachers will be preparing and selling fresh homemade soup this week in aid of our new yard. Soup and bread can be purchased for €2.50. Orders are being taken.

Science Week
There will be lots of activity in the school for science week again this year. Arrabawn C0-0p have again kindly agreed to send some of their Laboratory Team to us to work with some of the classes and the CBS Secondary will be getting more involved this year.
Mrs Hanly’s class will be making chocolate apples to celebrate the end of Science week and selling them for €2 each on Thursday 16th and Friday the 17th Nov. Orders will be taken during the week!
Ms McGrath’s class will be learning about materials and change during science week and from their learning will be making popcorn the following week. They will be selling bags to classes for €1 a bag Friday 24th Nov. Again orders will be taken during the week.

School Magazine
We have been very lucky to have three student teachers from Mary Immaculate College working with us for the past few weeks.  Mr Mackey, Mr Stone and Mr Flaherty have worked very enthusiastically with 5thand 6th classes. As part of their placement, they have compiled a Magazine that is specifically for the students of this school. The Magazine will be sale next week for €2.

Book Fare
We will be holding a Scholastics Book fair in the school from 30th November. This has proven very successful in the past with students and parents picking up enjoyable reads and some nice stocking fillers. The school gets commission for every sale. A letter with more details will follow, please support.

Greenschools.
 Next flag is Biodiversity. Biodiversity is the huge variety & variation of life that surrounds us, from the tiniest bugs to the biggest whales in the sea. It is very interesting and we look forward to the next two years.

Morning Supervision
Yard supervision begins each morning at 8:50am. Children dropped to the school before this time will not be supervised.

Monthly Update
St. Fintan’s

We visited Nenagh Castle and learned about its history we climbed all the way to the top and we could see all around Nenagh!
Our class went on a nature walk and collected colourful leaves, beech nuts and conkers and used them for art.
We also learned about autumn the hedgehog and the animals that hibernate.

St. Flannan’s
This month, finished our recount writing pieces.
We learned all about castles and we got to go to Nenagh castle.
We started hurling this month. We also went to a Gaelic Football blitz in Borrisokane.
In maths, we created our own graphs. We also learned how to do column addition with renaming.
We learned about Halloween and some of the traditions we practice during this festival.



St. Enda’s
Mateusz G won 3rdprize at the Dromineer poetry competition. We were very proud of him.
We learned about the Stone Age and recreated some of the cave paintings there lovely.
We started multiplications. And we are getting  great at it.
We enjoyed Maths week and played Mangahigh.com 
It was lots of fun.
We are doing our recount for the assembly on Friday.
We are learning a Halloween poem too. It is very funny!

St.Eugene’s
In maths, we did Data and Money.
In Irish we learned siopadoireachta.
In English we did are recounts.
We learned our counties and we also did art on Halloween.  


St.Declan’s
In English, we are reading a book called “The sheep pig”. The book is very interesting. We finished writing our recounts.
We enjoyed the maths week. Everybody went to the computer room to play mangahigh. Some boys completed problem solving activities on Scoilnet. The students might win a prize!
We learned about light in science and did experiments to test materials, to see if we are translucent, transparent, or opaque.
In geography, we learned all about County Kerry and completed a mini-project.
In art, we painted Halloween Silhouette pictures.



St.Diarmaid’s
We learned all about Halloween and made pumpkins pinch pots out of clay. We also painted them a bright orange colour.
We have been learning the recorder and enjoying our lesson’s with Mrs. Curran.
 In science, we are learning about Forces and Friction. We have learned all about Isaac Newton.
We are looking forward to Halloween!

St.Canice’s
In maths, we did length and data; we went around the school survey on soups.
We did our recounts this month.
In science, we did insulators and conductors and we did natural disasters.
In art, we did charcoal drawing.

In History, we learned the history of the GAA. In PE we did ball handling.


St.Conall’s
St.Conall’s students Aaron Coonan and Troy Donelan represented the school in the cross country tournament. Aaron Coonan came seventy-first and Troy Donelan came eightieth-fifth out of 105. There were 36 races.  
Our class is reading “Shadow” by Michael Morpurgo.
On world animal day (6th October), we made koalas and are planning to make other animals.
Mr. Mackey was teaching our class for the last 3 weeks.


St. Thomas’
We did some lovely Halloween art and scary haunted houses.
We also made some delicious chocolate apples with Mr. Buckley. The apples were tasty!
We went on a trip to Nenagh Castle, and got a very interesting tour and learned a lot about the Nenagh Castle.


St.Brendan’s
Our class on maths week, did a survey on sport almost half of the school like soccer.
St.Brendan’s learned about Ancient Greece sport, mythology, government, architecture and philosophy.

We are reading a novel called ‘’Holes’’ and making a display in the classroom.

We aso got to visit the secondary school.
