Winter assembly
We had our Christmas assembly today.
We heard the winning recounts from each class. The winning recount pieces were all excellent and had a range of topics.
Mr Greene, also, announced Green School’s project winner. It was an amazing project which covered irish mammals, birds, trees and more.
We also applauded our Acts of Kindness boys. They have shown consideration to their classmates, teachers and visitors. Well done.
Well done to our postmen who have done a super job this first term.
We finally had a very special vistor….from the North Pole!!!! Santa came to the Nenagh CBS primary GP room. We spoke to the boys and some of the teachers.
We sang some songs and by the time the boys returned to their classrooms, they discovered that Santa had left a selection box for every boy in the school.
Thank you Santa.
Lego Project 2018
This year the Nenagh CBS is celebrating 50 years on its current location.
To make the occasion, the school is running a number of events. One of these events is a special theme to our annual Lego project. The classes from 2nd all the way up to 6th had to designed the school of the future, 50 years from now.
The boys had been working very hard over the past number of months and the deadline was yesterday, 19/12/2018.
All of the projects were brought to our GP room and displayed.
We had a guest judge, John Joe Lewis, who is an architect in the Nenagh area. John Joe was impressed by all the designs and by the boys who presented the projects.
John Joe took some time to deliberate and his decision as to who are our winners are as follows;
Well done to all the boys as the standard was very high this year.

Monthly Update

St Gall’s class
This has been a really busy month for our class.
For the past number of weeks, we have been practicing with St Goban’s for our Christmas concert in the Secondary hall. We sang I Wanna Hippopotamus and A Million Dreams. Ms Ryan helped us with it alot, so thank you Ms Ryan.
In art, we designed our own Christmas tree pattern with lines. These turned out nice.
We finished power hour. We also finished recount writing. Alex was our winner.
We also ended our soccer training with John Paul. This was excellent and we really enjoyed it.
In RE, we have been learning all about the Nativity story. We even went to see the crib at St Mary’s of the Rosary church. Fr Des was there to show us around. We also wrote letters to Jesus at Christmas time.
In Geography we looked at Christmas traditions across the world, particularly in Poland.
St Goban’s class
We participated in soccer every Wednesday write an FAI coach named John Paul.
We were busy practicing for our Christmas concert which we really enjoyed. We song a Million Dreams, I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas and performed the poem be good to your Turkey this Christmas.’ In geography + History we learned a lot about China and Christmas traditions around the world. IN science ‘we learned about flight and made paper helicopters. We were also cleaning up after our elf on the ‘shelf!
St Flannan’s class
We had a very busy Month preparing for our Christmas play. We enjoyed the Christmas concert and everyone performed fantastically on the night. We made Angels out of our handprints using paint and we also made Christmas cards and drew the wise men travelling to see Jesus. We were busily creating our Lego Project of how we perceive what schools will be like in 50 years’ time. We finished up our Judo lessons and got certificates while we have now started Rugby training.
St Enda’s class
We learned Away in a Manger, Jingle Bells and Silent night on the tin whistle.
We started doing their Lego project and it was lots of fun.
We ran for ten minutes each day for or active schools flag.
We did art and made Christmas trees with pastels.
We did pattern the fractions in maths.
We were studying about the Advent Wreath.
We started doing their recounts and we had lots of fun doing it.
We started writing about the Nativity and we found it very interesting.
St Thomas’s class
The boys in St. Thomas’s were very busy practising for their Christmas concerts. They put in hours of work and it really showed on the night.
The boys took part in the Lego competition. Even though we are a small class, the boys produced a very high standard project. Mikey and Gerry presented the project to John Joe Lewis. He was very impressed.
Mikey and Gerry decorated the Bank of Ireland with artwork from many classes throughout the school. They were commended for their good behaviour.
All the boys went carol singing on Monday morning. Even though it was cold and wet, the boys continued to spread the Christmas cheer.
The boys in St. Thomas’s class would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas.
St Declan’s class
We started swimming in December – we are really enjoying it.
We started reading our novel Buddy, TJ and the penalty.
We made Bruschetta’s on 7th December. We used ham, mushrooms, pepperoni and peppers as toppings – they were really tasty.
We visited the library on 2 occasions – we are trying to be better readers.
On 12th December we visited the Church of Ireland to see the Christmas Tree Festival. There were some beautiful trees there – so creative.
We had our Christmas concert on Thursday 13th of December. We performed Dustin the Turkey’s Christmas Tree and I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas. We were very nervous but enjoyed it.
We were singing Christmas Carols on Monday at the Bank of Ireland and Eason’s. This was great fun.
We are visiting the Crib in the Church on Thursday – and also making gingerbread cookies.
St Diarmuid’s class
We rehearsed for our Christmas concert. We sang two songs, Lost Boy and Catch A Falling Star.
We made an act of kindness advent calendar and we learned about how Christmas is celebrated in different countries.
We decorated Christmas jumpers and hung them on our line.
We emailed News2Day on their question of the week and we were delighted when Zainab Boladale sent us a reply.
We really enjoyed reading the novel Private Peaceful and it prompted us to research World War 1 and the trenches.

St Conall’s class
This month was a very busy time for all in St.Connals as part of our Christmas performance we sang `Feliz Navidad’ along with reciting a poem called the days before Christmas in Nenagh C.B.S!
We produced a fantastic display of ‘Winter Windows ‘using chalk and pastels.
We also completed a novel called ‘Kensukes Kingdom ‘by Michael Morporgo.
This was made all the more exciting by making use of the audible app.
We’re now looking forward to our Christmas break and we wish everyone a merry Christmas.
St Canice’s class
December has been another busy month in St Canice’s 6th Class.
The whole school was buzzing in preparation for our whole school concert. We worked hard preparing our sketch and rap and were nervous and excited before our performance on the night. We really enjoyed performing.
We placed an Advent Wreath in our Sacred Space and learned a little about the Jesse Tree.
We did a lot of art this month; we made Christmas Reindeer Adventures, we used pastels to create Christmas Baubles, we drew 2- dimension shapes Christmas Tree Illusions, we created our own bespoke Christmas Cards in the computer room.
We also worked hard on our Lego Project. We all worked on different aspects of the project and brought different ideas together.
We went down town carol singing with the school.
Both 6th classes visited the CBS Secondary School to get a taste of what secondary school life would be like. We met a lot of our own past pupils there and totally enjoyed our trip.
We are now looking forward to the Christmas holidays.
