Spring News in the CBS
Ms Twomey’s Junior Infant class
Our class had a fantastic February filled with fun, learning, and celebrations! We marked special occasions such as Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year, and Pancake Tuesday, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
We also learned about Lent and took time to reflect on its meaning and importance.
We have been very busy developing our love of reading by enjoying picture books together every day after SOS. One of the highlights of the month was our lovely walk to our local library in Nenagh, where Margo kindly read three different stories to us. We had so much fun listening and engaging with the stories together.
On our way back, we even stopped into the church to say a little prayer and take shelter from the rain. It was a lovely moment and a wonderful way to end our trip.

Ms Glennon’s Senior Infant’s class
This month the boys and girls learned all about Spring. They learned how to spot the signs of spring
and picked out many signs in our environment. They also learned a lovely song as gaeilge called “An
tearrach an seasúr is fear”.
They learned about the Chinese New Year and the many traditions that are part of the celebration.
We discovered that most of the boys and girls were born in either the year of the dog or the pig. This
year is the year of the horse in the Chinese Zodiac.
The boys and girls in senior infants are really enjoying hurling with the TY girls every Monday and are
improving with every session.
Finally, senior infants have joyed taking part in our Read and Raise Programme. As part of this they
have had DEAR time every day, reading buddies with the boys in Rang 6 and also a trip to the library
for storytime.

Ms McCutcheon’s 1st class
1st class had a very busy month. They have been playing hurling every Monday and have been learning to type on the chrome books. They have been learning poems about spring in English and Irish and have been working very hard on their subtraction in Maths.
The highlight of February was celebrating Pancake Tuesday as a whole class. The children enjoyed decorating their pancakes with lots of different toppings. They were delicious!

Ms Shanahan’s 2nd and 3rd class
February was a busy month in our class. We all joined Nenagh library and chose books for our school initiative ‘read and raise’. We have read for 5290 minutes already! We made pancakes for pancake Tuesday with Mary – we all got to flip our own pancake and put on our own toppings. We made and designed clay pots for Valentine’s Day. We are learning about Spring in Gaeilge, Area and time in Maths and writing persuasive texts in English. Third class learnt about Ancient Egypt and Second class learnt all about Spring and that seasonal changes occur in living things.

Ms Maher’s 6th class
We had a very busy February, we were invited to Nenagh College to see the School Performance of the
musical Grease, it was an excellent show and we were delighted to see some past pupils perform. The
boys really enjoyed the experience. We are in the second week of ‘Read and Raise’ and are really
enjoying the time to read in school and at home. We went to the Library on Thursday and got some new
books to read. Mr O’Sullivan and Ms. Maher made pancakes in school on Pancake Tuesday, we got to
put Nutella, lemon, sugar, honey and marshmallows on them – they were delicious.

Mr Buckley’s class
This month we have been doing the theme of ‘The very Hungry Caterpillar’ where the children have been taking part in lots of fun activities. We did art for St. Brigid’s day and did lots of cooking and baking including pizza and pancakes which was lots of fun. We are learning new songs for the next school assembly.
