Hallowe’en in the CBS!!!!
Ms Glennon’s Senior Infant’s class
We had a lovely month in senior infants in October. It began with an autumn trail on our school grounds, where the children spotted many things such as beech nuts, horse chestnusts , pine cones and acorns. We gathered lots of red, yellow, orange and red leaves. We also sowed our own acorns which will eventually grow into great big oak trees!
We also enjoyed a very busy Maths Week. We played board games such as Connect 4, Frustration, Snakes and Ladders and Snap every day. We went on a maths trail around the school , enjoyed an online webinar from Clare Ed Center and we ended the week with some Bingo in the GP Room!
We listened to lots of lovely stories such as Room on the Broom, Owl Babies, Leaf Thief and Oak to Acorn. We created some beautiful Owl Baby Art and some scary pumpkin art!
Finally we all dressed up for the last day of school before Halloween. We had lots of very scary witches, zombies and werewolves in our classroom!
Ms McCutcheon’s 1st class
The boys and girls in 1st class have had great fun this October. For Maths Week they played Maths games, went on a Maths Trail around the school and carried out a Shape Hunt.
The children designed lovely autumn trees and squirrels during art lessons and also created pumpkins for Halloween through apple printing.
They loved interviewing their parents and grandparents about transport in the past and they presented their interviews during History lessons in school.
The class have been brilliant swimmers this month and we have now finished our swimming for the year. We are all looking forward to the well-deserved midterm break. Well done boys & girls!

Ms Shanahan’s 2nd and 3rd class
October was full of fun activities and included Maths week. We had maths puzzles every day, went on a maths trail around the school and played bingo in the hall. In class we were learning about rounding, estimating, adding and subtraction. In English we wrote scary Halloween stories and are continuing our reading daily. We’ve enjoyed listening to David Walliams novel Awful Auntie every day before home time and are all very glad we don’t have aunties like Alberta! We learnt about the history of Halloween and painted haunted houses in Art. We had dance with Megan, ukulele with Peter, chess with Colm and Gaelic with Pat.

Ms Gratton’s 4th class
October has been a busy and exciting month in 4th Class! In Maths, we explored symmetry and enjoyed taking part in lots of fun activities during Maths Week. In Irish, we learned all about ‘An Scoil’ and ‘Oíche Shamhna’, practising new words and phrases about school and Halloween. For SESE, we focused on our school and worked on interesting projects about Nenagh CBS. We were very lucky to get a training session in with TFA, all the boys showed great skill and had such a good time.
We also got very creative in Art, drawing pumpkins, making owl Halloween silhouettes, and designing our own Frankenstein pictures. To finish off the month, we started learning to play songs on the ukulele, which has been great fun!

Ms Fahey’s class
It has been a busy month in Ms. Faheys room. We have been learning all about Autumn this month and have enjoyed our nature walks collecting leaves and conkers along the way!
We have been visiting the library every week and listened to lots of stories from Margaret the librarian.
