New School year in the CBS
Ms Twomey’s Junior Infant class
September has been a very exciting and busy month for Ms. Twomey’s Junior Infants. The children have settled into school life so well and have embraced every new experience with enthusiasm. We even made it into The Guardian newspaper, which was a very proud moment for everyone.
Throughout the month, the children have been getting to know one another and have enjoyed a wide range of activities designed to help them feel comfortable and confident in their new surroundings. They had great fun playing and making jigsaws with Mr. Tooher’s class, which was a lovely opportunity to develop their social and co-operative skills.
As part of our work on the theme of autumn, the class went on a nature walk to explore the changing season. The children observed falling leaves, autumn colours and all the little signs of nature preparing for winter. We were also lucky to have several visitors during the month, which added to the excitement in our classroom. The children were thrilled to see a tractor up close and really enjoyed meeting Jack from TY, who has been a wonderful helper and role model.
In class, the children have been working hard on their early literacy skills. We have begun learning our sounds through a variety of sensory activities, play and making the process hands-on and engaging. The children are putting in great effort every day and are already making fantastic progress. Both Ms. Twomey and Ms. Slattery are so proud of how hard everyone is working and how well they have adapted to their new routines.
September has truly been a month of new beginnings, fun, and learning in our Junior Infants classroom. We are very excited to see what the rest of the year has in store!

Mr Tooher’s Junior Infant class
Junior Infants settled into school very well. It was a shock to the system at first but the Juniors quickly adapted and are now thriving. We are working hard and playing hard.
This month, we focused on:
Fine motor skills to develop pencil grip.
We learned some nursery rhymes, these were great.
We practiced being kind, learning how to share and taking turns.
In gaeilge , we focused on Mé féin.
We really enjoyed our Aistear play this month, it was all about myself and my family
In literacy, we practiced the letters s, a & t
In numeracy, we explored the primary colours and matching.

Ms Shanahan’s 2nd and 3rd class
After a lovely summer, it was great to be back and meet all our friends again. We welcomed Luca, Davi and Jeremiah to our class. We started learning the ukulele, have dance with Megan and are learning lots of Gaelic Football skills with Dan from Eire Og. Oisin, Jeremiah and Jack Cusack represented our school in cross country. Eoin and Aryan were elected to represent our class on the student council, and Deon and Annie were chosen for the Wellbeing committee. We were spoilt by Mary, our new SNA, who treated our class to homemade pancakes with a choice of toppings. We learnt all about life in the Stone Age and about various habitats. We did some lovely art and put our Autumn leaves on display. We learnt all about Me Fein in Gaeilge and started a reading challenge to encourage more reading. We got a lot of new maths resources so are enjoying using these in our Maths lessons.
Ms Gratton’s 4th class
In September, 4th Class had a very busy and exciting start to the school year! In Irish, we learned all about Mé Féin and enjoyed chatting about ourselves and our families in History. For writing, we worked on procedural texts and even wrote instructions on how to make delicious Rocky Road and then we made it together, it went down a treat! We also began learning to play the ukulele – it has been great fun trying out our first few chords and our first song, ‘Baby Shark’. We have been doing lots of hands-on activities in maths, the boys are enjoying it loads. On top of that, we started rugby sessions with Pat, where we’ve been building our skills, teamwork, and confidence on the pitch. It’s been a fantastic start to the year!
